about me

My name is Paul Spence and this is my portfolio. I am currently looking for a Front End Web Design role as well as helping out with the admin of the SESKPA Forum and I am currently redesigning the website for The Rossborough Hotel in dunbar.

Some of my key skills include XHTML, CSS, W3C Standards, Accessibility, MySQL and the use of Flash, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and a little bit of Illustrator too. I like to learn new skills all the time and I am currently getting to grips with php and the jQuery JavaScript libary. In addition the ability to use current web technologies and work to tight schedules comes naturally along with a love for varied, challenging and interesting projects that will advance my knowledge and passion in all areas of web design and development.

I have commercial experience as I have worked as a freelancer since leaving University but I know I would benefit by being in a professional environment, surrounded by likeminded designers and developers.

Working as a freelancer has given me the opportunity to meet clients face to face. I can interact with them and form healthy working relationships that in turn, help that specific project to meet the goals that the client and I have for the project. Each client is very different, they all provide a wide variety of challenges that aid my personal development.

Each and every one of the projects that I have completed has helped me to grow as a developer and designer. They have helped me to gain more knowledge of the programs and technologies that are used in any project. After every project, I feel that I have learned something new and am eager to work on another project so I can develop my skill set and improve on my existing knowledge and capabilities.

What about in my spare time?

Well In my spare time I try to fit in one of my other passions, PC case building and modifying. I love to take a concept that I have in my head, do some sketches and then turn my idea into a full scale 3D model that can be used as a reference for the actual build. I enjoy scratch case building because it allows me to use both creative and practical skills to build a final product that matches either a brief or the idea in my head.

I get great satisfaction out of watching a concept materialise into a final, usable product, whether that be a web site or a scratch case build. There is no better feeling than to see a client completely happy with their product. I feel that this satisfaction is what makes me want to get up every day to design and build websites, it is my motivation.
